Abstract Submission Expected Behavior

The submission of an abstract implies a sincere intent to present the submitted research during the meeting. Authors and presenters are expected to display integrity in disseminating their research; adhere to the content and conclusions of abstracts as submitted and reviewed; remain gracious by offering collaborators the opportunity for recognition as a co-author; make sure that listed co-authors have made a bona fide contribution to the project, are aware of their inclusion, and have accepted that recognition; and be diligent in preparing a polished product that conveys high quality scholarship. GSA strives to promote diversity among conveners and presenters when organizing panels, keynotes, and other invitational session.

Oral Presenters

The length of most oral presentations is 12 minutes plus three minutes for questions and answers. You must visit the Speaker Ready Room at least 24 hours before your scheduled presentation. All technical session rooms will be equipped with a Windows 10 PC and MS Office 2013. Presentations should be prepared using a 16:9 screen ratio.

Two Abstract Rule

You can submit up to two abstracts as the presenting author if:

  • One is for a poster presentation, and
  • Both abstract submissions cover different content.

Invited submissions to Pardee Keynote or topical sessions do not count against your abstract limit.

Abstracts submitted for a session conducted in Spanish do not count toward your abstract limit.

Additional Technical Program Information

Early Action Abstract Deadline

  • We’ve introduced an optional early action abstract deadline to give presenters the opportunity to receive notification of acceptance by mid-June.
  • This early decision path is open to all submitters and is especially valuable for international participants who may need additional time for visa applications.
  • The early action abstract decision deadline is 19 May 2026.

Technical Program Platform

  • In April 2025, we successfully transitioned to a new and improved platform for the technical program. All accepted topical sessions and Pardee Keynote Symposia are now hosted on this streamlined system.
  • Session advocates and Pardee Keynote Symposium conveners were asked to review and update their session or symposium details, including the entry of invited speaker information.
    • Updates to invited speaker lists can typically be made until the final abstract submission deadline: 6 August 2026.
    • If you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us at meetings@geosociety.org.

Invited Speaker Abstracts

  • Invited speakers must use special session- or symposium-specific URLs to submit their abstracts in order to receive the “Invited” designation.
  • These personalized URLs were distributed to session advocates and conveners at the end of April. Advocates/conveners are responsible for sharing these links with their invited speakers.
  • Please Note: Abstract submissions to Pardee Keynote Symposia are by invitation only.

Lightning Talks

  • Poster-only session advocates now have the option to include a Lightning Talks component as part of their sessions.
  • These rapid, high-impact presentations will take place on the Innovation Stage in the Exhibit Hall.
  • If you're interested in incorporating lightning talks into your session, reach out to meetings@geosociety.org for details.

We’re excited about these enhancements and look forward to your participation in this year’s Connects program!
