GSA Meetings

Will the App be updated if there are changes to events throughout the meeting?

Yes! The App will be updated if event locations or times change.

Where can I search for an author’s presentation?

There are two locations in the App where you can search for a particular author's presentation. In the “Search Abstracts” tab, you can view individual dates of Connects and see a chronological list of which presentations are happening each day.

How can I add a presentation to My Schedule?

  1. After tapping on the upper right magnifying glass or the “Search Abstracts” tab, search for the author or presentation title you’d like to attend. Once you have found the correct one, tap on it, tap “Add now,” and select your notification option (15 minutes, custom, none). The presentation is now visible in “My Schedule.”
  2. You can also add full sessions to “My Schedule” by tapping “Add now” at the bottom of the screen of the Session you would like to attend.
  3. Finally, you can add Sessions or Events to “My Schedule” from the calendar view by tapping the (+) icon at the right of the screen.

What can I search for in “Schedule: Sessions/Events?”

  1. All Non-Technical and Technical Sessions and events with hours and locations. This includes but is not limited to: Speaker Ready Room, Student Volunteer Office, ticket events, luncheons, competitions, Technical Sessions, Field Trips, Short Courses, Nearby Events, business meetings, Session Chair Orientations, Distinguished Lectures, Pardee Keynote Symposia, GSA Lost and Found, Registration Desk, GSA Self Care Room, GeoCareers Corner, Poster Hall, GSA Exhibit Hall, GSA Coat and Luggage Check, GSA Coffee Breaks, receptions, ceremonies, Noontime Lectures, Division business meetings, meet-ups, Town Halls, and evening events. Please note that not all events listed are open to all attendees; some are ticketed or invite-only. A few events also required prior sign-up.
  2. In this tab, you can also tap on individual dates of Connects and see a chronological list of sessions/events happening each day.

How do I find my way around the meeting?

  1. There are interactive floor plans for the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Grand Hyatt, and the Exhibit Hall. You can select any room on your chosen floor plan, and it will tell you which sessions will be there. Conversely, if you are looking at an abstract or session, an interactive floor plan is linked in the description. You can tap on it, and it will show you where you are and where the room is.
  2. Additionally, we will have Student Volunteers who can help point you in the direction of the room you are looking for. The student volunteers will be around the HBGCC in “ASK ME” vests.

How can I find an Exhibitor I want to visit?

  1. If you tap on the “Exhibitors” tab, a list of exhibitors will appear. You can tap on any exhibitor, and an interactive floor map will appear with an exhibitor description, if applicable. You can also take notes on this page if you have any information from the exhibitor you would like to write down.
  2. You can also select the “Exhibitors Hall” from the drop-down menu in the “Floor Plan” tab to view an interactive map of the Exhibit Hall. If you tap a booth, it will bring up which exhibitor is there. If you tap on the name of the exhibitor from this view, it will also bring up the same description found in the “Exhibitors” tab.

What are the additional filter tabs on the list?

  1. The “Field Trip” and “Short Course” tabs filter for those events ONLY. Showing the day, time, and place of each event.
  2. The “Events” tab filters for Non-Technical Events and Ticketed Events, showing the day, time, and place of each event.
  3. “Filter by Abstract Type” will allow you to view presentations by discipline or category. This will bring up the calendar view with the corresponding presentations.
  4. “Filter by Session Type” will allow you to view any of the following sessions/events: Topical Sessions, Group Alumni Reception, GSA Divisions/Cmte/Sections, Non-Profit/Associated Society, Private Alumni Reception, Pardee Keynote Symposia, Discipline, Special Lectures, Poster: Disciple, Poster: Topical, and Topical Lightning.

Can I watch the live stream of the Noontime Lectures on the App?

Yes! If you scroll to the bottom of your tab list, tap “YouTube,” the GSA YouTube page will pop-up. All live streams will be on GSA’s YouTube channel.

Can I take notes on the App?

  1. Yes! There is a “Notes” tab where you can write any information.
  2. There is also a “Create note” button within each presentation, found directly under the interactive map. Do not use the “Discussion” tab within someone’s presentation to write your own notes. That tab is visible to everyone at the meeting.
  3. There is also a “Create note” button within each Session, found directly under the interactive map. Do not use the “Discussion” tab within someone’s presentation to write your own notes. That tab is visible to everyone at the meeting.

Do I need to enable push notifications?

No! If you would like to be notified before the start of a presentation, you can select “15 minutes” or “Custom” when adding a presentation to your Schedule. If you don’t enable push notifications, but want to still view them, all meeting notifications can be found in the “Notifications” tab.

Can I use my personal calendar on my phone to store presentations/events I’d like to attend?

Yes! You will need to enable calendar permission in your phone’s Settings to allow the App to save to your personal calendar. To add it from the App, simply tap on the arrow button to the right of a presentation/session/event time, and it will save to your personal calendar.
